Finally, Some Needlepoint!

Wow, it has been a LONG time since I threaded a needle!

I don’t know if it was a third trimester pregnancy symptom or just plain old fatigue, but my eyes were so tired at the end of the day that I couldn’t begin to focus on stitching.  Let’s be honest, I just plain couldn’t keep my eyes open.

I lost my stitching mojo.

Then I got a little package from the needlepoint fairy (aka Mary Agnes at Needle Nicely).

Look at what she sent to celebrate Maddie’s birth:

It’s perfect for three reasons:

1) It inspired me to find my stitching mojo!

2) I was looking for a special first Christmas ornament for Maddie

3) The personalized/handmade gifts that we’ve received hold such a special place in our hearts and lives!

I raced to my stash to find some fibers and get started.  Thank goodness for a long, nighttime nap and a 2 hour Dancing with the Stars episode!  I got the letters all finished and I’ll slowly work my way through the design this week.  I’m thinking of sticking with basketweave for most of it, but if you have a suggestion for the background, let me know!

Friday Favorites

This Friday Fave is going to feature a few needlepoint pieces, that are on my ‘favorites’ list and my Christmas list!

Honey, are you taking notes?!  I’m sure any of these shops would be happy to mail you a little last-minute package for your lovely, pregnant, grumpy wife.

I really enjoy the Annie Lane canvases from TWNC:

This Greek Key Belt from Mary Agnes at Needle Nicely (Note: I couldn’t find this canvas online, so this photo is snagged from her blog!)

I think this would be really cute in navy/lime green or navy/hot pink- either as a belt or a cute, preppy pillow!

And, a final option would be Maggie & Co. ‘Shopping for Shoes’:

Any last minute items you are adding to your list?  Are you done with your shopping or just getting started?!

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree…

So, I learned all of my bad amazingly good habits from my mother!

She took my shopping suggestions from last week seriously and has been on a needlepoint splurge!  Here’s hoping that Dad hasn’t figured out how to read my blog yet…

What I loved most about her splurge was that it was a splurge/trade!  Mom’s friend Rose (who’s been featured several times on the blog!) was dying for a specific piece of needlepoint.  You know the story- discontinued, only available on ebay, going for a GAZILLION dollars…

And, it just so happened that my mother had the exact canvas tucked into one of her ‘magic needlepoint treasure chests’.  So, they made a deal.  One lusted after canvas, swapped for another lusted after canvas.  Everyone walks away happy- and with lots of stitching to do!

Here’s the piece that Rose has been eyeing for years:

Isn’t it great?!  I can see it with lots of different stitches and fibers!  Can’t wait to see what Rose comes up with for her stitches!  I believe it’s an old Maggie & Co.

For the exchange, my Mom wanted the Mindy Sea Turtle, which arrived this week via the Needle Nicely express ;-)  At least I think this was the one that they sent, but I don’t see their tape along the edge, so maybe they sent another package…

And, since I made Mom take pictures of her things for the blog, she also wanted me to share a finished piece that one of her dear friends gifted to her, many moons ago.  She says it’s one of her absolute favorite canvases!  I’ll have to get the details from her about who painted it, etc.

What about you, have you ever ‘swapped’ with a friend?

I love to share canvases with new stitchers!  I always have small projects or ornaments lying around, which make great beginner projects!

I’m back….

Great trip, lots of shopping (ummm… I totally needed those 2 new purses…), good food and tons of laughter!

I managed to get the background done of downward dog while waiting in Newark, NJ for second flight.

Hmmm, and let’s talk about that second flight.  First, I upgraded to First Class and starved because I was allergic to all the food options (and when I asked about other options, I was told there were none- not even peanuts!).  About that allergy, it’s to bell peppers, so not something normally served, but somehow it managed to be in every dish offered at lunch (except the fruit cup). Thank you Continental for taking my money, my miles and faith in airline travel.  Oh, and can we talk about how bumpy and miserable the flight was… I’m pretty sure it was the pilot’s first flight… I think I’ll be sending them a little note in the AM.

So, did I mention it rained.  Like sub-tropical depression-hovering-over-Florida-for-3-days rain.  Thankyouverymuch.

And, after a trip to the human ER (Kathie was crippled in pain with a nerve issue) and the dog ER (Mom and Rose played vet…),

Kathie enroute to West Palm Beach ER with a pinched nerve in her back…

Angus, post visit to the puppy ER…

Thank goodness everyone will be ok, but it sure made for some memorable excitment!

In the middle of it all, we did manage to find some time to shop with Mary Agnes at Needle Nicely in Vero Beach, FL.  Be sure and check out her blog (HERE!) for new canvases arriving regularly!

We had a lovely time in the shop, found LOTS of new canvases… I’m going to attempt the Cape Stitcher’s Nutcracker Suite ornament set for the holidays- wish me luck!

Here are just a few snapshots (sorry, Mary Agnes, I caught you mid-camera story!)

Lots of goodies, waiting to be stitched!

We did manage to fit in some stitching time (after all the medical excitement and shopping!).

I took a project that I’ve had sitting around for a while and grabbed some threads from my stash to make it a ‘stash buster’ project.

Here is the progress:

Rose was a gracious host, and I slept better in FL, than I have in several weeks in MA.. perhaps the combo of fresh air, and lack of dog cuddlers :-)

So, with that, I’ll conclude the trip recap, and offer a sneak peek of the large project that I’m currently working on…

And, I’m off to bed but, I will leave you with some serious kitchen-envy from Rose’s house.  Check out this awesome kitchen accessory:

Have a good night and I’ll see you this weekend with more updates and a longer post!

XO, Mer
